As an experienced speaker and training specialist, Amanda Slichter created Speaking Alongside to live out her personal mission of dismantling oppressive systems on internal, interpersonal, and institutional levels. Centering the voices of the most marginalized, Amanda advocates by following the lead of communities who have been disempowered— hence the namesake of Speaking Alongside. She partners with clients to formulate every training, presentation, and consultation with tailored learning outcomes and intentional, skills-based content. Amanda is also available for writing services such as copy editing. Clients can expect high energy, responsiveness, and an unapologetic call to action.

We brought Amanda to Pennsylvania College of Technology for RA Training. Her workshop “Identity Day” was informative, impactful, and engaging. The RAs had a chance to learn about inclusive language, marginalized identities, allyship, and so much more! I’ve been a participant and observer of many different DEI presentations and workshops, and Amanda was by far the best presenter! She keeps it real and relatable, and makes the challenging topics less intimidating.
I’d also add that she is one of the most organized individuals I’ve ever worked with. Her attention to detail, communication through every step of the process, and consideration of the various needs/challenges that come with our unique institution were incredible to witness. If you need a speaker, she has to be at the top of your list!

Amanda facilitated an amazing presentation on Inclusive Language. There are so many reasons why it was excellent, informative and impactful. The content was comprehensive and applicable. Most of all, her delivery of the content was undoubtedly the best I’ve experienced. She made the uncomfortable comfortable, meaning that she presented the information in a way that was mindful of the spaces, experiences and knowledge that each of us may be in or understand. In essence, she hit the nail on the head with every identity she spoke about in bringing attention to the “why” language matters and how to be respectful of individual identities and how to share in a space with different people in a welcoming and inclusive way. Simply, it was real talk without the threat of being “called out” for past mistakes, but also providing space to process the value of listening to self-identifiers. I will definitely be recommending Amanda to anyone I know of or hear of that is looking for an Inclusive Language Workshop!

Amanda is a pleasure to work with, she is very responsive, very flexible and presents with a strong passion for advocating for not only the LGBTQIAP+ but for all individuals.
